Banks Are Tracking Your Every Move
In a very Orwellian development, Ally Financial Bank is now using their customer's smart phones to track their location. They're doing so to keep their customers constantly informed of where the nearest Ally ATM is located. With an app that runs in the background, customers can get an instant bead on the closest cash machine. Other banks have indicated similar plans to include a locator app. It needs to be up to each individual to decide whether a location tracker used by their bank is a convenience or is creepy. It would be important, however, to carefully review the bank's privacy policy. First, to make sure that it includes a provision related to its ability to track your location, and, second, to ensure that the tracking data is secure and that it remains proprietary to the bank.
